Ashleigh's story

In 2019, my friend invited me to join her for a 1km ocean swim event on the south coast of NSW, Australia.

It was an excuse for a girls weekend away disguised as training for our late-twenties return to waterpolo after 7+ years away from sport while we forged careers in Canberra.

I came away (shocked) with 3rd place in my age group and we decided to spend the last months of summer entering short swim events up and down the coast.

I realised I had one thing all the super fit athletes didn't - great technique.

Later that year, I spent six weeks training twice a week to complete a marathon 10 km swim. I came away with 2nd place.

Ultra marathon success

In 2023, I swam the English Channel with no coach or training plan, weighing in at 94 kg.
At 5'4, most people did not take me seriously yet I landed in France 13 hrs and 47 minutes after taking off from the cliffs of Dover.

In early 2024, battling anaemia and depression I attained the Australian Triple Crown of Marathon Swimming.

In 2025, I broke the world record for the fastest Fastnet Rock swim by a female ever, completing 20.5km from Baltimore, Co. Cork, Ireland, to the Fastnet Rock lighthouse in 4 hrs and 57 minutes.

Three weeks later, I became the fourth woman and first Australian to swim the Dal Riata Channel from Scotland to NI.

Another three weeks later, I completed a solo swim of the length of Loch Ness, Scotland.

I only train a few times per week because I fit it into my life, where my life allows. I succeed because I have the best technique possible for my specific circumstances.

Once you've decided to succeed, good technique is the only other thing you truly need.
